I almost felt like I took on mathematic when I started gem cutting. So I tried to sum up all the information in a way I understand. It might help you understand this intriguing and intricate profession or it might leave you even more baffled than I was. As I run out of space on my original post, I moved the info here and added some more.

CONSUMER INFORMATION

In the time you walked through Hyberia, you have picked up numerous raw gems. These little twinkles have the potential to become real jewels. But before you can find your dream gem, it's good to know some basic information.


RAW GEMS
The raw gems you find come in two qualities:

* Uncut gems: these have a green name and will produce good quality gems, that can be put in size 1 sockets
* Flawless gems: have a blue name and these will produce superior quality gems, that can be put in size 2 sockets.


CUT TO FIT
Each item type – armor, 1-handed weapons, 2-handed weapons – has a different cut:

* For armor you need Oblique (uncut) or Cabochan (flawless)
* For 1-handed weapon you need Rhombic (uncut) or Trillion (flawless)
* For 2-handed weapons you need Oval (uncut) or Teardrop (flawless)


STATS AND HOW TO READ THEM
An overview of Stats can be found HERE

Column 1
Shows the raw gem. We call that gem class. Each gem class corresponds with a gem color.
A full list of raw gems is found in the Crafter section of this thread.

Column 2-3
Shows the shape of the cut that corresponds with the item type you can socket it in (third column).
Gem cutters can either cut gems for armor, 1-handed weapons or 2-handed weapons.

Column 4
Shows the prefix of the gem. Each prefix has a name and this defines the stats you are gonna get. Which prefix you get is random.
For example a black (class 1) gem for a onehanded weapon can either become Defiling, Malefic, Venemous, Noxious or Baneful. Which you get, is the gamble.

Column 5
Shows the stats type of each gem.

Column 6-7
Shows the actual stats for tier 5 en 6.

CRAFTER INFORMATION


GEM DROPS
Gems drop off humanoid mobs. In general lvl 40 gems drop from lvl 40-49 mobs, lvl 50 gems from lvl 50-59 mobs, etc.

* Tier 1 - level 40-49 - Field of the Dead or Noble District
* Tier 2 - level 50-59 - Eiglophian Mountains
* Tier 3 - level 60-69 - Thunder River, Atzel's Approach
* Tier 4 - level 70-74 - Atzel's Approach, Keshatta
* Tier 5 - level 75-79 - Keshatta
* Tier 6 - level 80+ - Keshatta (listed as lvl 75)


PROFESSION
To start Gem Crafting visit the trainer in Poitain, Purple Lotus Swamp or Lachleich's Plane. He will give you a quest to make three random gems. As at the moment crafting is slightly bug, you need to zone out or relog before every gem you make, to get the update. After a zone/relog, make the gem right away for the cut to count. Make sure you allready have the raw gem and the needed crafting kit in your inventory. Note: You can't craft in combat.


SHAPES, SIZE & SOCKET
Uncut gems will produce good quality gems (green name). These have gem shape 5 and can be put in Size 1 sockets.
Flawless gems will produce superior quality gems (blue name). These have gem shape 10 and can be put in Size 2 sockets.
Simple Conclusion:
Uncut = green name = gem shape 5 = size 1 socket
Flawless = blue name = shape 10 = size 2 sockets


ITEMS
One handed weapons (named class A)
Rhombic gems = uncut = shape 5 = size 1 socket
Trillion gems = flawless = shape 10 = size 2 socket

Two handed weapons (named class B )
Oval gems = uncut = shape 5 = size 1 socket
Teardrop gems = flawless = shape 10 = size 2 socket

Armor (named class C)
Oblique gems = uncut = shape 5 = size 1 socket
Cabochon gems = flawless = shape 10 = size 2 socket


SOCKETING
Note: As crafting is till slightly bugged, this may not work as intended.

* Make sure both the item and the gem are in your inventory ~ NOT equipped
* Select the gem, the items that the gem can be added to will be surrounded with a green border
* Drag and drop the gem onto the selected item.

TIME TO COMBINE
To put it simple, A1 means a black gem in a Rhombic or Trillion shape that can only be put in one handed weapons. The prefix is the name (defiling, malefic, etc) and defines the stats. Note: Which prefix (which A1 cut) you get is random. So you won't know if a you will get a Defiling Trillion Ruby or a Malefic Trillion Ruby. LIST OF FLAWLESS GEM STATS

What cut do I need for my crafted item?

* For armor you need Oblique (common) or Cabochan (rare)
* For 1-handed weapon you need Rhombic (common) or Trillion (rare)
* For 2-handed weapons you need Oval (common) or Teardrop (rare)


What gem can I use on my crafted item?

* Common crafted items have Gem socket 1 slots. In these sockets you can put a gem shape 5, which are cut from common raw gems (aka Oblique, Rhombic and Oval cut gems)
* Rare crafted items have gem socket 2 slots. In these sockets you can put a gem shape 10, which are cut from uncommon raw gems (aka Cabochon, Trillion or Teardrop cut gems)


When can I cut what tier?

* Tier 1 = Lvl 40 Gem = Can craft from lvl 40+
* Tier 2 = Lvl 50 Gem = Can craft from lvl 50+
* Tier 3 = Lvl 60 Gem = Can craft from lvl 60+
* Tier 4 = Lvl 70 Gem = Can craft from lvl 70+, needs Tier1 Alchemist workshop to finish quest
* Tier 5 = Lvl 75 Gem = needs Tier2 Alchemist workshop to finish quest
* Tier 6 = Lvl 80 Gem = needs Tier3 Alchemist workshop to finish quest


Where do I find gems?
Gems drop from mobs. In general lvl 40 gems drop from lvl 40-49 mobs, lvl 50 gems from lvl 50-59 mobs, etc.
